For my Responding Challenge, I decided to look up jewelry in South Africa. I wanted to make some earrings that a teenage girl in America would wear, while incorporating African touches. In African jewelry string, beads, and braided materials are commonly incorporated into the jewelry. I decided to use pliers to twist two paper clips together to give it a braided look and add a third paper clip as he clasp of the earring. I also wanted to incorporate string into it in some way, so I tied pink, yellow, and white string on the earring to make it seem more colorful and less empty. I learned that in South Africa, the colors they use in jewelry has different meanings. I wanted these earrings to be bight and cheerful, so I incorporated that into my project. I can't wear these earrings yet because they aren't made of the right metal, but I plan on fixing that soon and wearing them. Overall, I think these are really cool and turned out pretty well. |
